A brief history? OK then… We have been shooting weddings for a while now and been featured in Vogue, Brides and Golf International. Job done… Maybe we could expand a little more?
We are Tom and Judy, (married since 11th April 2009), and Becky (Tom’s middle sister) we all have a passion for Weddings and for Photography, a match made in heaven for wedding photographers! Tom and Judy live in a little apartment in Stansted, Essex with our furry children Tilly, Jay and Lizzie and a real boy on the way! Becky lives in the sticks with Mum and Dad but aspires to live in London as soon as possible!
Other than photography we are all avid walkers (we have a life-long love affair with the English Lake District), pet lovers, movie lovers & book lovers. Becky has an unnatural obsession with fashion photography, Tom’s more into Portraits and Music photography but secretly loves a good fashion mag!
Tom is the original founder of the company (if you hadn’t already guessed) and as Tom’s writing this I’ll switch to first person so I don’t confuse myself! I have had a fascination with music, art and photography since I was in my early teens and surrounded myself with magazines, posters and towards my mid-teens, the internet. My fascination became a hobby when I nicked my Dad’s Olympus OM30 and a couple of lenses for a holiday to Cornwall and (inadvertently) took some fabulous photos. I shortly later bought my first digital SLR and started snapping anything and everything that took my fancy. During the ‘snapping anything and everything’ stage I realised people were much more interesting to photograph than buildings and bugs and so I honed my skills to photographing them. That brings us neatly up to where Thomas Day Photography started. Since I started the company I have had the pleasure of shooting Weddings, portraits, headshots, TV sets and film, PR, events and commercial work. It’s hard to define my speciality apart from ‘people’ but weddings are my favourite to shoot. It’s huge a buzz when you capture someone’s feelings, a smile, a glint of the eye or just a portrait with that something special. It’s a buzz I can’t explain and I can’t let it go!
Judy has supported, been frustrated by and the subject of my photographic obsession for years, she understood more than she thought when I eventually convinced her to pick up a camera and use it creatively, now she’s got the bug. She’s the sideliner the one who captures the candid images and the important interactions you might easily forget. She has become my second photographer, chief poser, assistant, manager, business partner and all round foundation that is driving our current success. I would be lost without her.
Becky has joined us most recently, fresh from university with a 2:1 degree in Fashion Promotion with Styling, atop her top marks A-Level in photography. Becky loves details and will happily photograph flowers, shoes, rings, glasses, tables and of course, people happily all day. Her work also now features in our company portfolio – yes, she’s that good. No, I didn’t just hire her because she’s family *wink* – I know what you were thinking!
